Mr. Bain's practice includes preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patents in electrical, computer, and related fields. In addition, Mr. Bain counsels clients on freedom-to-operate, infringement, due diligence, licensing, and other intellectual property issues. He has experience in, for example, computer software and hardware, semiconductors, micro-electromechanical machines, control systems, superconducting magnets, motors, biomedical equipment, integrated circuits, and business methods. Mr. Bain represents such diverse clients as Invensys Systems Inc., by Schneider Electric SE, Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated, and Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Mr. Bain received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1988, where he graduated magna cum laude. During his undergraduate career, he was a member Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies, and was recognized as a National Merit Scholar and Curators' Scholar. While in law school at the University of Missouri, Mr. Bain received an American Jurisprudence Prize in Procedure 1 and Academic Achievement in Law Awards in Intellectual Property and Employment Discrimination. He was also the associate editor in chief of the Journal of Dispute Resolution.
Mr. Bain currently serves as the Group Leader of our Electrical, Computer Systems and Software practice. He has also served on the firm's Executive Committee as Chief Operating Partner. Mr. Bain is past chair of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and past vice chair of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Committee of the Missouri Bar. Mr. Bain is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Mr. Bain currently serves on the Corporate Council of the Missouri Botanical Garden, including its Engagement Committee. He regularly provides pro bono support to the Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts. Mr. Bain previously served on the Board of Directors for Art St. Louis.
