O'Neill Discusses Social Media
William O'Neill's article "Industry Insight: Social Media Creates Legal Maze for Businesses" appeared in the November 9, 2009 issue of the Springfield Business Journal. O'Neill discusses the implications of businesses and employees using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogs, and other types of social media. O'Neill says, "It's important for businesses to remember that all the general laws relating to intellectual property and consumer protection apply to social media and the Internet." Among other recommendations, he suggests that businesses monitor Internet activity involving the company's name and brand and that "companies establish reasonable social media policies that require transparency and honesty and reflect the company's values."
