Senniger Powers' Julie Jennings Comments on Usenet.com Lawsuit
Attorney Julie Jennings is quoted in The Register in an October 17, 2007 article, "RIAA Aims Lawyers at Usenet Newsgroup Service." The article discusses the recent lawsuit by fourteen recording companies, all members of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), against Usenet.com. Jennings explains that RIAA is "accusing Usenet.com of direct copyright infringement, alleging that the service distributes and reproduces content without authorization. But they're also saying that the company induces others to infringe."
Usenet.com is an online service that allows subscribers to share music and files. The 167-page complaint alleges that "as a direct result of Defendant's conduct, thousands of the most popular sound recordings--and even works not yet available to the general public--are infringed every day." The lawsuit was filed October 12, 2007 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
