Professional Summary

Mr. Bain's practice includes all areas of intellectual property law. In addition to preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patents in electrical, computer and related fields, Mr. Bain counsels clients on freedom-to-operate, infringement, due diligence, licensing, and other intellectual property issues.

Among other technologies, he has experience in computer software and hardware, semiconductors, micro-electromechanical machines, control systems, superconducting magnets, motors, biomedical equipment, integrated circuits, and business methods.

Mr. Bain represents such diverse clients as Microsoft Corporation, Covidien (formerly Tyco Healthcare), Mallinckrodt, MEMC Electronic Materials, Cookson Electronics, and the University of Missouri.

Mr. Bain received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1988, where he graduated magna cum laude. During his undergraduate career, he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies, and was recognized as a National Merit Scholar and a Curators' Scholar.

While in law school at the University of Missouri, Mr. Bain received an American Jurisprudence Prize in Procedure I and Academic Achievement in Law Awards in Intellectual Property and Employment Discrimination. He was also the associate editor in chief of the Journal of Dispute Resolution. Mr. Bain received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri in 1991.

Mr. Bain currently serves on the firm's Executive Committee as Chief Operating Partner. He is also the Group Leader of our Electrical, Computer Systems and Software practice. Mr. Bain is past chair of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and past vice chair of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Committee of the Missouri Bar. Mr. Bain is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
