Professional Summary

Mr. Yuan's practice includes all areas of intellectual property law, with special emphasis in preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patents relating to electronics, computer systems, software systems and business methods. Mr. Yuan has experience in various computer-related technologies such as media processing, telecommunication systems, search engines, database structures, operating systems, business management applications, data security and electronic medical devices.

While in law school, Mr. Yuan clerked for Judge Joan B. Gottschall of the United States Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois as an extern, and assisted the Judge in construing the claims in the case, Databurst v. Checkfree. Judge Gottschall's decision on claim construction was upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in 2004.

Before attending law school, Mr. Yuan also had an opportunity to clerk at the Parliamentary Counsel's Office in the Attorney General's Ministry of Belize. Mr. Yuan assisted the Chief Parliamentary Counsel in proofreading the 2000 revised edition of the Laws of Belize and establishing the Laws of Belize Web site to be incorporated with the Library of Congress in the Global Legal Information Network.

Mr. Yuan is a member of the American Bar Association (Criminal Justice and Intellectual Property Sections), the American Intellectual Property Association, the Missouri Bar, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. Mr. Yuan currently serves as the Secretary on the board of Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) St. Louis Chapter. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
